Review Request Subject Lines

You are asking a favor, so it has to read like a person asking. Every line below is written that way, and the scorer marks any promotional styling here as a red check, not a style note.

49.1% average open across 444,915 OnVoard review-request sends.

This is the aggregate for the Reviews email type as a whole (request, reminder, and reply emails together), not the request stage in isolation, and it is an average across every OnVoard merchant sending review requests, not a promise for your store.

What works

  • Plain questions. A single question mark scores full marks in the tester, so "How is the tote working out for you?" costs nothing and reads like a real person asking.
  • Framing around the product, or around helping the next shopper decide, both give the ask a reason beyond "please review us."
  • The profile wants 25 to 48 characters and 4 to 8 words: enough room for a full, sincere sentence.

What to avoid

  • Emoji, according to our tester. This profile takes a conservative view and flags any emoji as a red check, because it favors a plain, personal tone over decoration. That is our scorer's call, not a rule of email: outside guidance is mixed, and measured performance on emoji varies a lot by industry, so test it against your own audience if emoji suits your brand.
  • Capitals, exclamation marks, or promotional styling generally. The scorer treats these as promotional signals here, and a review request that reads like a campaign works against the plain, personal tone this profile is built around.
  • Urgency of any kind. Nothing about asking for a review is time sensitive, and the profile scores urgency phrasing here the same as it does in a welcome email: off.

You are asking a favour, so it has to read like a person asking. Promotional styling here (caps, emoji, exclamation marks) makes a sincere question look like an ad. Every line below is scored against this exact profile in the subject line tester.
